I am surprised at the lack of understanding about the meaning of this song by Meghani.
The whole of Saurashtra and Gujarat was ruled by Rajput kings who were deliberately made opium addicts under the British rule. The poet is lamenting this addiction.
The addiction started before birth (see the first stanza) and lasted though life. It was made by grinding the opium and then drinking it.

That is quite stupid. Just as stupid as people implying Tagor’s Jan Gan man was praising Britishers. I mean even a simpleton can understand it is ‘Shaurya’ he means and not opium. Seriously, you read one idiot coming up with alternate absurd theory and you put your brain and common sense aside just to feel different from others and boost your ego a little, I suppose?

This is evergreen song of Gujarati Language, nothing can be better than this lyrics, “Raga”, No “Dayro” program can be completed without this song. We also have sung and enjoyed this song many times.

I immensely enjoy the Gujarati songs apart from Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits and others. However, the sipping the nectar and diving into depth of Gujarti songs; is in itself a unique experience.
