કેસરવરણી સમરસેવિકા કોમલ સેજ બિછાવે;
શોણિતભીના પતિ-સુત-વીરની રણશૈયા પર લળતી;
શાબાશીના શબ્દ બોલતા પ્રત્યેકની પિછાને;
છેવાડો ને એક્લવાયો અબોલ એક સૂતેલો;
એનું શિર ખોળામાં લેવા કોઇ જનેતા ના’વી;
એને સીંચણ તેલ-કચોળા નવ કોઇ બહેની લાવી;
સન્મુખ ઝીલ્યાં ઘાવો મહીંથી ટપટપ છાતી ચૂતી;
આખરની સ્મ્રતિનાં બે આંસુ કપોલ પર ઠેરાયાં;
હળવે એનાં હૈયા ઊપર કર-જોડામણ કરજો;
એને ઓષ્ટ-કપોલે-ભાલે ધરજો ક હુંબન ધીરે;
એ ગાલોની સુધા પીનારા હોઠ હશે બે રાતા;
એની રક્ષા કાજે અહર્નિશ પ્રભુને પાયે પડતી;
એને કંઠ વીંટાયાં હોશે કર બે કંકણવંતા;
જોતી એની રૂધિર – છલક્તી ગજગજ પ્હોળી છાતી;
એકલડો ને અણબૂઝેલો અગન-પિછોડી ઓઢે;
એ પથ્થર પર કોતરશો નવ કોઇ કવિતા લાંબી;

For the reference of our readers, here’s
original song : “Somebody’s Darling” by
Marie Ravenal de la Coste and John Hill Hewitt
=======================
Into the ward of the clean white-washed halls
Where the dead slept and the dying lay,
Wounded by bayonets, sabers and balls
Somebody’s darling was borne one day.
Somebody’s darling so young and brave
Wearing still on is sweet yet pale face;
Soon to be hid in the dust of the grave
The lingering sight of his boyhood’s grace
chorus:
Somebody’s darling, somebody’s pride
Who’ll tell his mother where her boy died?
Matted and damp are his tresses of gold,
Kissing the snow of that fair young brow;
Pale are the lips of most delicate mold,
Somebody’s darling is dying now.
Back from his beautiful purple-veined brow,
Brush off the wandering waves of gold;
Cross his white hands on his broad bosom now,
Somebody’s darling is still and cold.
Give him a kiss, but for Somebody’s sake,
Murmur a prayer for him, soft and low;
One little curl from his golden mates take,
Somebody’s pride they were once, you know;
Somebody’s warm hand has oft rested there,
Was it a mother’s so soft and white?
Or have the lips of a sister, so fair,
Ever been bathed in their waves of light?
Somebody’s watching and waiting for him,
Yearning to hold him again to her breast;
Yet, there he lies with his blue eyes so dim,
And purple, child-like lips half apart.
Tenderly bury the fair, unknown dead,
Pausing to drop on his grave a tear;
Carve on the wooden slab over his head,
“Somebody’s darling is slumbering here.”

I was looking for this and many other Gujarati poems, gazals and songs. The website is a great contribution to our mother tongue.
Thank you very much for providing these wonderful gujarati songs for free. Living in australia, I started forgetting these songs, now I will never. Thanks once again for joining me back to my soil and soul.
fantastic job yaar!
I had heard this song 60 years ago in Ahmadabad and i distinctly remember that it brought lots of tears to my eyes. I am experiencing the same feelings today. Some songs & writers of such masterpieces are immortal. Outstanding contribution.
Oh, what a wonderful, soul stirring lyrics. It has been long time since I have heard this song, it is truly an experience to hear this, and all I can say is thank you.
I definitely enjoy this awesome post.
Before 70 years, my mother has won a prize for singing this at a school function at Bagasara. She also guided my sister to sing this at a school level contest at Porbandar and she too won the prize before 40 years ! I have heard Shri Praful Dave singing this song on some national day but it was incomplete without tears in the eyes. I pray Almighty to give me such a voice to sing this aloud for my whole life with non-stop flow of tears for the sacrifices of all known / unknown.
This song feel us proud even in the worst time of present politics.
આભાર for www. mitixa.com
